Excitement builds in Athletes? Village in anticipation of opening ceremony

Since London?s successful bid seven years ago, the world has been counting down to this day and, as the last of the teams move into official accommodation, it is beginning to dawn that the Olympics are about to begin.

Yesterday Olympic legend Usain Bolt tweeted a photo of himself en route to the Athletes? Village.

The Jamaican sprinter left fans hoping he would replicate his Beijing performances of 2008.

?Good luck man,? tweeted fan Asaolu Alex Samuel. ?More records to be broken.?

For those already in the Athletes? Village, Wednesday?s Opening Ceremony rehearsal thrilled competitors.

Australian diver Melissa Wu looked across the Olympic Park from the Athletes? Village, taking a photo of the Olympic Stadium lit up below the ongoing fireworks.

The 2008 Olympic silver medalist tweeted: ?Opening ceremony rehearsal and fireworks last night. It’s almost go time!! #London2012 #excited?

Some athletes have to sleep and won?t attend. GB canoe coach, Ian Wynne, a medalist at Sydney 2000, knows why. He tweeted: ?Excited to be going to the opening ceremony #london2012. I?ve competed in 2 games, partaken in 2 closing ceremonies. Will be my 1st OC.?

British pistol shooter Georgina Geikie loved the rehearsal, tweeting: ?Awesome fireworks last night in prep for the opening ceremony tomo! + apparently only 1% of what the real thing will be! #Olympics #Excited?
