Aussies put brains before beauty when it comes to their ideal hotel buddy

Australians have proven they?re not a shallow bunch choosing brains over beauty when it comes to their idea of an ultimate hotel companion or ?plus one?.

According to a fun survey carried out by Hotels.com, more than one in four (22%) Australian travellers look for a hotel buddy with substance, preferring intelligence over looks (9%) when choosing their ideal hotel room companion.

Well known for their love of life and laid back attitude, Australians rated having a sense of humour high on the list with almost three quarters (68%) voting for a funny hotel buddy. Half of Australians (51%) said they wanted a fun traveller to shack-up with.?

Top five characteristics Aussies look for in a plus one when staying in a hotel room:

  1. Sense of Humour
  2. Trustworthiness
  3. Similar lifestyle values
  4. Fun
  5. A love of life

When asked which family member Australians would most like to share a hotel room with, the majority chose their husband or wife (56%) followed by a sibling (15%).

Australians voted to share a hotel room with their four-legged friends or pets (8%) over grandparents (1%).

At the other end of the spectrum, the biggest turn-off for Australians when looking for an ideal hotel room buddy was snoring with well over half (63%) of Australians voting for a non-snoring ?plus one?. Selfish-natured hotel room companions were also unpopular with 60% of Australians preferring not to bunk with egotistic personalities. Both smoking and flatulence also registered high up as unpleasant characteristics.
